J5 Fun and Games

She's the youngest and the smallest of the group, but don't let that fool you. Brittany Hargest, 15, can take whatever her fellow J5'ers can dish out. And it's no wonder. She's been showing the world what she can do since the age of two, studying voice, piano, guitar, dance and gymnastics. And today, due to her hard work and determination, she is an incredible, passionate performing artist. The one thing she hasn't managed yet-thankfully-is a diva attitude. There's not an ounce of prima Dona in her. "I'm so normal, it's scary," she says. "I have a mouth full of braces-the clear kind, though, so it's not too bad-I love to shop, and I do chores. I clean toilets!" She also has a dog, Jumper, "who makes me very happy," and a very vocal desire to tour internationally. "France, anyone?"

Always energetic, Lesley Moore, 16, is never at a loss for words. She loves to shop, loves EasyMac ("ready in 3 minutes... it makes me very happy"), loves to dance, and she would like to clarify that her favorite color was never orange. "It's always been pink." Like her friends in Jump5, Lesley began entertaining at a very young age. She appeared in many commercials and music videos and basically kept her mom running around like a crazy woman. Now that Lesley runs around the country on tour with Jump5, maybe her mom-"my best friend"-gets a break. Her father's death, when she was only three, left her with a gift even more important than the gifts she brings to the stage. It taught her to squeeze every minute out of each day. "One of my goals," she says, "is to live life to it's fullest. Not to rush through it, but to enjoy each and every day. To be real, be myself and make each day count."

Libby Hodges, 16, is a young woman who has made up her mind. From the age of five, she followed her singer/actress mother's lead and embarked on a career in entertainment. But the older she gets, the more she's realized that life is so much more than that. "The hope we have in God is what makes all this so meaningful," she says. "So many singers/artists have a career, but they have no peace. There's no real joy, not even in success, if you don't know how much you're loved by the creator of the Universe." And even with all the success Jump5 has seen over the past two years, she gets the most excited sharing that hope with the fans. With the end of high school in reach, Libby has future plans for college, but not until she takes a mission trip with Youth With a Mission (YWAM). "I want to take a year off to do mission work. That's important to me." She's determined to leave a personal legacy, beyond the music.

As the elder statesman of Jump5 at the ripe old age of 17, Chris Fedun says what he means and means what he says. Truth be told, Chris is an avid athlete and an accomplished performer who paid his dues studying voice, piano, guitar, and gymnastics, as well as jazz, tap, ballet and hip hop dancing. If you ask him what has amazed him the most about being in Jump5, he's quick to tell you that it's what happens after the music: "It's mind-blowing to talk to fans or read their letters...When a parent says, 'Your music helped me put my life back together,' it just makes me feel so blessed to be a small part of something that can encourage people." As for future plans, Chris is headed toward high school graduation and then on to studying drama and acting. No surprise there. Those who know him best, like his Jump5 pals, figure he'll be commanding a stage somewhere even when he's 70.

At 16, Brandon Hargest may be the 'shy one' in Jump5, but he's certainly no wallflower. A performing artist from the time he could walk, Brandon has a hard time deciding which he loves more, the time he spends on stage or meeting the fans after the show. "I love hanging out with my family and friends, going to movies, playing laser tag...normal stuff. But performing and getting to meet the fans-it's so cool to make a difference in someone's life, so that makes me happy." Accelerate, the new album, marks the first time a member of Jump5 has a songwriting credit. Brandon co-wrote "All Because of You," and is pumped to get his first cut. "I've been writing a lot this year, and I've got much to learn, but it's a start!" Currently, when not on the road with Jump5, Brandon can probably be found in his garage, building a recording studio, and with a videogame definitely within arms reach. "One of my goals is to finish the studio in my garage, buy some equipment; to keep writing and start producing some music. Of course, college is another one...someday."
